Tip for the day: Optimize your page title

At Cataweb Online, we can’t stress this point enough. Page titles are seen first by the search engines and second by the searchers themselves. If you’re page title is relevant enough, chances are you will show up with the right keywords in the search engine results pages (SERPS). You are actually helping the search engines classify your site easier.

The searchers (or your target audience) are the second ones to see your title, but the title is actually the first thing they see about your site. They may or may not choose to follow the link based on your page title. They will bookmark your site if they like what they see once inside. When bookmarking, your page title is the default text. If your page title is concise, relevant, and descriptive enough, searchers will not edit the title itself in the bookmarks column. And what if the searcher bookmarked your page and didn’t bother to change the title? Then he forgets why he bookmarked your page in the first place? If your title isn’t descriptive enough, he just might delete your bookmarked site, or never come back for a visit.

Last, when someone tries to find a site that they liked but forgot to bookmark, they usually look at the browser history. And your page title is what the browser history shows. If again, your title isn’t descriptive enough, then it won’t stand out in a browser history list and you might lose a return visit because of that.

You see, a simple thing such as a page title can be a big factor in SEO. Cataweb Online stresses that sometimes, it’s how you optimize these simple things that can make or break a web site. I hope you found this post useful. And if you want to learn more about SEOs, then you might want to check out this blog that a co-worker wrote.
